Stainless steel is the most suitable material for IASTM Tools because it resonates. Information provided by the tissue about agitated structures can be felt by the therapist through the tool. The therapist scans the condition of the tissue by stroking the skin with the tool. In that way, he or she can feel where blockages are present that need to be treated. By stroking the skin with the tools, you can not only detect superficial adhesions, but also irregularities that are located deep underneath the skin. The feeling can be compared to stroking sand.
Shapes & edges IASTM tools have:
- Concave shape, this is a rounder, long curve.
- Convex shape, this is a tube-shaped indentation.
- Round blunt shape (for more pressure and deeper layers).
- Hook shape (among other things for the treatment of trigger points).
- Double slanted edges.This is the ideal shape for strokes in both directions during treatment without having to switch hands. This part feels slightly sharper on the skin.
- One slanted edge.The slanted edge is ideal for scanning for tissue problems. However, the finishing allows for fewer application options.
- Round, straight edge.This part feels softer to the client, which means that the therapist can apply more pressure. Ideal for treating trigger points.
How to choose the right IASTM Tool?
The most appropriate instrument depends on the complaint to be treated and the pain point or pain line indicated by the client. The part of the body that must be treated is also important in choosing the right IASTM tools
Some instruments are used to “feel” of blockages by stroking across the tissue, using the slanted sides of the tool.
The points of the instruments are used to reach problems in deeper layers of the fascia and make fascial manipulations possible.
