Stainless steel is the most suitable material for IASTM Tools because it resonates. Information provided by the tissue about agitated structures can be felt by the therapist through the tool. The therapist scans the condition of the tissue by stroking the skin with the tool. In that way, he or she can feel where blockages are present that need to be treated. Shapes & edges IASTM tools have:
- Concave shape, this is a rounder, long curve.
- Convex shape, this is a tube-shaped indentation.

The most appropriate instrument depends on the complaint to be treated and the pain point or pain line indicated by the client. The part of the body that must be treated is also important in choosing the right IASTM tools
